If you’ve recently moved to Northampton, Kettering, Corby, or anywhere else in Northamptonshire and you are looking for things to do, Pink & Jones have you covered. We’ve come up with a varied list of events and places to visit this summer in Northamptonshire, from historic attractions to nature reserves, and more.
1) British Grand Prix
Date: 8th – 10th July 2016
Taking place at Silverstone Circuit in Towcester this summer is one of the biggest British sporting events in the calendar, the F1 British Grand Prix.
If you are a racing fan, this event is already likely in your calendar but even if it’s not, it’s definitely not an event to miss. With attractions such as performances from music artists and the entertainment zone, it’s an event the whole family can enjoy. Make sure to visit the Grand Prix website in order to buy your tickets.
2) Abington Park
Abington Park is the oldest and most popular of all the parks in Northamptonshire. It contains the ruins of the village Abington which was depopulated in the 17th century. The park is also the site of the 1612 Northamptonshire Witch Trial and information on this historic event can be seen at the Abington Park Museum. Aside from the historic aspect of the park, it also boasts a café, flower displays, lakes, sporting facilities and a play area. It’s a great day out for those people looking for a quiet, relaxing day but also for families who are looking for various activities to enjoy.
3) Kirby Hall
Construction on Kirby hall began in 1570 and was completed some time after. It’s an Elizabethan-era country house and while much of the building is in a semi-ruined state, the grand Great Hall remains intact. The gardens at Kirby Hall were described as the “finest garden in England” in the 17th century and have since been replicated to recreate the look and feel of the gardens as they once were.
Facilities include free parking, a picnic area, garden exhibitions, optional audio tours and baby-changing facilities.
4) Santa Pod Raceway
Santa Pod Raceway, in Wellingborough, has an extensive offering of events. You are able to race or drift your own car, watch some of the biggest UK’s stunt drivers in action, see some monster trucks crush caravans and a lot more.
There is always a lot going on at Santa Pod so make sure you head over to their website in order to see a full list of the events they currently have running.
5) Stanwick Lakes
Tucked away in the countryside village of Stanwick in East Northamptonshire is the nature reserve of Stanwick Lakes which covers over 750 acres of rural countryside.
Stanwick Lakes has a wide variety of activities that will definitely get you a full days worth of fun and enjoyment. There are also organised family activities such as the Adventure Playground and Adventure Trail. For those people looking for a more relaxing day out, the Lakes have fishing spots, boat hiring, observing wildlife, a heritage trail and a lot more.
We hoped you like the list we’ve come up with for what to do in Northamptonshire this summer, of course there is a lot more going on but we recommend you definitely add our recommendations to your list of things to do.
