Similar cost of living in America
Generally speaking, the cost of living in America is similar to the UK and the majority of British immigrants have a comfortable quality of life. There are lots of opportunities due to the sheer size of the USA compared to its population, so many Americans who own land construct their own homes outside the big cities. Many expats living in America notice that rent prices can be slightly higher than UK prices, particularly in New York, but on the whole they do not notice any significant financial loss or gain in comparison to life before moving to America.


American visa
The purpose of your travel to America will depend on the type of visa you need to apply for, and it will be processed at the U.S. Embassy in London for UK citizens. Immigrant visas are obtained by foreign citizens by being sponsored by a US citizen or lawful permanent resident, immediate relative(s) or prospective US employer, and have an approved petition before applying for an immigrant visa. The most desirable visa, known as a green card (I-551), is a permanent resident visa.

Shipping your belongings to the USA is straightforward with us; your two options are to send everything by either sea or air. Shipping by air is the quicker option of the two, but is more expensive than shipping in a container over sea. If your budget is tight we can make your shipment even cheaper by sending your belongings in a shared container.
If you're sending your belongings in a container by sea, your items will arrive in several weeks, and if you opt to share a container it could be longer. The time frame may seem long, but shipping your belongings this way is the easiest and most affordable means of transferring it all to your destination safely and securely. Whichever method works better for your budget, you can be confident your belongings will be handled with the utmost care and will arrive in America in the same condition you left it in.


Restricted items at American Customs
America has strict rules and restrictions about what can and cannot be imported into the country, so ensure you check the items you are shipping before before you go. Penalties can be enforced if you have goods on the restricted list that are not declared.
You can find information on the official website of the Department of Homeland Security and ensure that the goods you're importing are accepted.
The following items are included in the list of restricted items and need written permission to bring into the USA:
- Firearms and ammunition
- Inflammable goods & substances
- Plants and plant material
- Foodstuffs, perishables or otherwise
- Narcotics and dangerous goods
- Offensive materials
- Alcohol and tobacco

From the moment the team walked into our home to pack up for the move we knew we were in professional hands they worked quickly but were very careful with our belongings and they were very approachable. On the day of the move they arrived on time and loaded the lorry efficiently with care making sure everything was safely stored. On arrival to the new property Ben & Chris worked solidly to make sure all our belongings were unloaded and placed into the correct rooms. We can honestly say this move was the only thing that went through without any stress which is more than can be said for the actual purchase. We offer free in‑person or online video surveys to make getting a quote quick and easy. If you’d prefer a visit, one of our experienced surveyors can meet you in person. If it’s more convenient, we can carry out a video survey at a time that suits you, using your phone or tablet.

The Booking Process
STEP 1: PRE-MOVE SURVEY
First, we'll conduct a pre-move survey. We will take a detailed inventory of everything that you’re looking to move. Please let us know if anything changes so we can update your quote accordingly
STEP 2: KEEP IN TOUCH
If you'd like to go ahead, please keep in touch with updates on your move date. We'll also follow up with a quick courtesy call to check you've received everything and answer any questions.
STEP 3: LET US KNOW YOUR TENTATIVE DATE
When you have a tentative moving date, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ll make a note of it and do our upmost best to keep you updated on our availability.
STEP 4: BOOK YOUR REMOVAL
Once you've exchanged contracts (if applicable), it's time to book your removal. To confirm your booking, we require a 50% deposit if you're booking more than a week in advance, or full payment if your move is within the next 7 days
STEP 5: MOVING DAY
We’ll give you a courtesy call the working day before your move to confirm the final details and collect any remaining balance. After that, we’ll see you on the big day!

Each member must comply with annual inspections during their membership; giving you that much needed reassurance.
